Fujifilm today announced its new Fujinon Teleconverter XF 2x TC WR, a teleconverter that extends the reach of X mount telephoto lenses.
The high-performance teleconverter multiplies the focal length of mounted lenses by two and features 9 optical elements in 5 groups that help retain the optical quality of the mounted lens. The light loss of the teleconverter is 2 stops.
As the WR in its name suggests, the teleconverter is resistant to both weather and dust, and can operate in temperatures down to -10°C (14°F) — a perfect pairing for Fuji’s weather/dust-resistant X Series mirrorless camera bodies and lenses.
There are currently two X mount lenses that are compatible with the upcoming teleconverter: the XF 50-140mm f/2.8 and the XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. With the 2x magnification factor, the lenses will have focal ranges of 100-280mm (equivalent to 152-427mm in 35mm) and 200-800mm (equivalent to 305-1219mm in 35mm), respectively.
The Fujinon Teleconverter XF 2x TC WR will be available starting in June 2016 with a price tag of £349.
