Spring Shoot 2016 review


Our annual show, the Spring Shoot, has shot! Massive thanks to everyone who came down and helped to make the day such a roaring success.

Tuesday the 17th May 2016 saw the return of our annual interactive event, the Spring Shoot.  Back and better than ever, we had top brands, demos and seminars. It was held across multiple rooms at the Hamworthy Club, nr Wimborne, and once again we brought you all the latest from the biggest names including Canon, Nikon, Leica, Panasonic, Sony and Fujifilm.
There was something for everyone at this year’s spring shoot, we had some great show deals on the day and many of them continued in store and on the website until the weekend.

Action

Wild Arena were alongside Canon and Manfrotto with some wonderful wildlife to photograph. They were available to chat to, see the creatures and get some great photographs.

South Wilts Falconry were with us flying their beautiful birds of prey from the sports field, We watched these magnificent animals using the latest optics from Leica, Swarovski and Vortex.

Seminars

Starting us off at 10:30 am we were honoured to have award winning professional Fujifilm X-Photographer, Kevin Mullins as our headline speaker. Kevin Mullins is regarded as one of the best wedding photographers in the world. He is also a prolific street photographer and exclusive Fujifilm user.

Then at 1:30 pm, from Sony we had returning speaker Michael Wayne Plant. Michael was with us for our first Spring Shoot and was a big hit with many of you. He is a supremely versatile photographer covering social documentary, fashion and commercial photography.

Rounding up the seminar schedule at 2:45 pm, from Nikon we had the fabulous John Clements from Go Photo Training. John is a well regarded photography trainer. His courses always sell out and leave delegates bursting with new ideas on how to improve their photography.

All of the seminars cost just £5 to attend. All attendees will receive a wrist band at the show reception desk, you must wear your wrist band to gain entry to the seminar. After the seminar has taken place, your wristband will entitle you £5 off in our shop at the show.

New Cameras Added!

The EOS 80D and EOS 1DX MkII have now also been added to this promotion. In addition, it has been agreed that the claims for 80D and EOS-1D X Mark II will be accepted from the beginning of the promotion (23rd March). If customers bought an 80D before it was added to the promotional web site, when they buy a compatible lens within the promotional period, they are able to get the reward on it.

Customers can claim the lens reward AND the San Disk card when buying a 1DXII with an eligible lens.

Canon are touring the UK visiting key stores to deliver talks/seminars based around the new EOS-1D X Mark II. Canon Ambassadors/Explorers from both photo and video will be talking about their experiences and how to get the most out of this superb new Pro-DSLR. Eddie Keogh is a freelance photographer who shoots sport for Reuters. He is a Canon Explorer, part of the Canon Ambassador Programme and also has a contract to shoot sport for 02; sponsors of the England rugby team. He worked as a sports photographer for national newspapers from 1986 until 2005, when he joined Reuters as a contract photographer.

Eddie covered his first Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, at the age of 21 and including 8 football World Cups he has photographed almost every sport ever invented.

David Newton

David Newton is a professional photographer and videographer who avoids specialising in any one area. As the former technical editor of EOS Magazine and Canon Professional Network, his knowledge of the Canon system is extensive. An active photo tutor, David often gives seminars for Canon at various camera shops and trade shows.

Recent video work includes a documentary about an Ironman triathlete with a heart transplant and a corporate commercial.

Spring Shoot round up


Our interactive photography show, the Spring Shoot returned for 2015 on Tuesday 19th May. Held this year in the large hall at the Hamworthy club, we once again brought you all the latest from the biggest names including Canon. Nikon, Leica, Panasonic, Sony and Fuji.

There was plenty of live studio action with Pentax and their mighty 645Z along with some simply stunning seminars from Nick Webster, David Newton and of course Damien Lovegrove. The seminars were packed out and were thoroughly enjoyed by all of our guests.

All of the suppliers did a great job of bringing you the latest and greatest from their product ranges giving everyone a rare opportunity to get hands on with some real exotica.

Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre were with us, flying their beautiful birds of prey from the sports field. Sigma kindly sponsored a photography competition of the birds, which was won by John Watkins with his great shot of the bald eagle landing on his handler’s glove. John walked away with a Sigma 105mm Macro lens worth £399! Congratulations again John.

We also drew the raffle ticket for Lowepro and the winning number was ticket 182. This still remains unclaimed so if you have ticket number 182 please get in touch, you have a Lowepro bag worth £200 waiting for you!

Leica Akademie, 12th December 2014


Friday 12th December saw us hold our first Leica Akademie workshop, here in our Bournemouth store.
The event was a great success and we loved giving our customers the opportunity to learn more about this incredible brand, their history and their products. John Dooley, former picture editor of the Telegraph and Leica photographer was on hand to explain all things Leica and guide our customers through these incredible cameras including the new Leica M-P rangefinder.

The full Leica range is available now from Castle Cameras, including M, T, X, V-Lux, D-Lux, C and Optics.
